Testimonial from Sadé & Nicky Le’Mon

Choosing a preschool is never easy, but for us, the decision felt even more significant. Our daughter was born prematurely at just 26 weeks, and after spending so much of her first year in and out of hospital, the thought of placing her in care—even part-time—was daunting. She started at the centre just shy of 2 years old, and we knew she would be more vulnerable to illness than most children her age.

From day one, Alicia and her team welcomed our daughter with open arms, showing not just care but genuine love. Even during those tough early days—when Layla was hospitalised more times than I can count—they were always there, checking in with messages and constant support. Their thoughtfulness meant the world to us.

Over the past three years, we’ve watched our daughter blossom. The growth in her confidence, social skills, and curiosity has been incredible to see. One milestone that will always stay with us was the day she rode a bike for the very first time. We had been practicing at home for weeks, and she just hadn’t quite got it — but one day at preschool, surrounded by encouragement and support, she nailed it. It was a beautiful, proud moment that captured just how much she’s thrived in this nurturing environment.

Her teachers have played such a huge role in shaping the little person she is today, and for that, we will be forever grateful.

Thank you, Alicia and Starlight whānau, for walking this journey with us, for treating our Layla-Lou like your own, and for creating a space where she has truly grown, thrived, and been loved.

Testimonial from Amy

We feel so incredibly lucky to have found such a special place for our son to grow, learn, and thrive. From the very first day, we were welcomed with open arms and immediately felt the warmth and care that fills every part of the preschool. It has such a homely, comforting atmosphere, and it truly feels like an extension of our own family.

The kaiako are absolutely wonderful. They are kind, patient, genuinely caring, and have a beautiful way of connecting with each child. Our son has formed strong and trusting relationships with them, and it is so clear that he feels happy, safe, and loved every day he attends. The teachers don’t just teach. They nurture, encourage, and celebrate each child’s unique personality and development.

The management team is equally outstanding. Their dedication to both children and families creates a supportive and inclusive environment. Communication is always clear, open, and thoughtful, and we always feel heard and valued as parents. The focus on building strong partnerships with families makes such a difference, and we have always felt incredibly supported on this journey.

Our son has been attending for 14 months now, and he is very happy and settled, most days he’d prefer to stay longer! He looks forward to going each day and always comes home full of stories and excitement. Seeing him flourish in such a loving and positive environment is the greatest reassurance we could ever ask for as parents.

We cannot speak highly enough of this beautiful preschool. It is a place filled with warmth, heart, and a genuine love for children and families. We will always be thankful to be part of this amazing community.

Testimonial from Katy & Sam

Starlight is a home away from home for our two children. It’s a small centre with a big heart and really has a community feel. All of the lovely kiako create a warm and friendly environment while showing a genuine interest in getting to know the kids and their families. Knowing the kids all sit down for a delicious and nutritious meal everyday is also a big bonus. We love being part of the Starlight Whanau.

Testimonial from the O’Connors

They say it takes a village and the teachers at starlight are ours as they go above and beyond to create a 2nd home for our babies and be a part of our family. The love and genuine care for our children cannot be beaten right from 12months to school age. The teachers put so much effort into ensuring our children feel safe supported and have the skills to transition seamlessly to school. We wouldn’t be anywhere else and couldn’t thank them enough for what they do for us.
